Bali Opens 2009

The Only 2 Singapore teams. Shiok and Freakshow, with Freakshow being the eventual Champions!

It was serious and intense affair in the Nusantara Cup X Bali Frisbee tournament for Shiok, the club that i trained with, as we were back in Bali to defend the title we won last year. We put up a good show in the preliminaries by beating our opponents convincingly and sent a strong message to our strongest rival, Freakshow. But it was not meant to be in the finals as we narrowly lost to them in the universal point (think golden goal in soccer terms). This defeat only spurs us to work harder towards Sing Open 2009, where we will definitely have the chance to meet them.

Kuta- Day 1

Whoever said that Kuta is a centre of night life activities in South Bali with rows of clubs and pubs must be seriously kidding me. When i stepped out of the airport taxi with 2 of my new found Canadian friends, the whole place looked as dead as a cemetary. Apart from a Macdonald that stood out in the dark landscape, the rest of the town seemed to have fallen asleep. I was certainly disappointed with the dismayed welcome Bali had offered. It was only 10 plus at night and i was expecting more energy and people, rather than some dark alleys where hideous shadows lurk in the corners. (

My two new found Canadian friends certainly came in very handy. Long before i touched down i had decided that i was certainly not going to spend 50,000 rps (SGD 7) for a 15mins ride alone. Yes, it certanly sounds like i'm being stingy but I was on a backpacking trip, not on a spending spree. My mission was to spend as little as possible, but to enjoy as much as possible. But I am very cautious and selective against my prospective cab-sharing friends. They certainly have to be a foreigner (thus have no reason to rob me), not some locals (whom i am prejudiced against), have to look friendly (or so i tell myself) and at least smile (would you share a cab with someone that looks angry?). So i scanned the queue at the counter for awhile, like choosing the freshest vegetables and fruits on the racks in the supermarket. Soon enough, i found a couple, made my move and it turned out to be a pretty good decision as we combed the maze-like alleys to find a suitable budget location for the night.

Mae and Jae, as they introduced themselves to me, have just graduated from university in Canada and have been travelling Southeast Asia for 3 months or so. (At the time of writing, they would already be in India.) After I put down my bags and showered, they knocked on my door and invited me for supper where we chatted a great deal about each other's lives and adventures so far.

It was definitely a great ending for the first night as it was the first time i was spending a night overseas alone. If only i knew what i was to face tomorrow...

I had originally planned to travel, after i have ORDed,for the months leading up to university matriculation. But life as unexpected as it can be, disrupted this plan of mine with circumstances that i do not wish to discuss. Then there is my lack of discipline. Even with my elaborate planning on hand, i do not have the enough money to finance the long trip. Forced by circumstances and the consequence of my indiscipline, i had to put off my trip until now.

2. The holders of executive power have control over:

a) all section and units of acxcountry blog, including the posting of pictures and tags, within their area of command;

b) all public authorities (of ACX, the states and the municipalities), especially the entire law enforcement police, security police and administrative police;

c) all office bearers and subdivisions of the BOR and those of its affiliated associations;

d) the transportation services and public utilities.

3. The entire BOR is integrated into the army with immediate effect.

4. The holders of executive power are responsible for the maintenance of order and public security. They especially have to ensure:

a) the protection of the communication facilities,

b) the blog is constantly updated

c) the elimination of the Spammers (Security Service). Any opposition against the military power of enforcement is to be broken ruthlessly. In this hour of highest danger for the Fatherland, unity of Band of Runners (BOR) and the maintenance of full discipline is the uppermost requirement.

That is why I make it the duty of all commanders of the army, the navy, and the air force (whether ORD-ed or not) to support the holders of executive power to carry out their difficult task with all means at their disposal and to guarantee the compliance of their directives by the subordinate sections.

The ACX runner stands before a historical task. It will depend on his energy and attitude whether the Band of Runners will be saved.

I remembered telling the guys that our batch was the 'last dynasty' of runners that was capable of bringing the cross country title home 2 years ago. This prophecy was delayed time to time as Mr Ang contemplated on quiting on numerous occasions but somehow it didnt came through. And now finally it has been realised, however, to many's dismay.

The current Acjc team saw a couple of changes as the new year came. Firstly, mr ang officially left the acjc team in the hands of Mdm Lin, otherwise more known as yuan bing's sister, to be in charge of the team. Secondly, acjc and acsi will be going separate ways in their trainings. no longer teaming up to form a huge training group that we frequently saw in the past. These 2 major changes will more or less impact the acjc team pretty hard as they seek to stand on their own, without mr ang's brillant guidance, since he took over the team more than 10 years ago. Thus the new year began with a 'big bang' and created a brand NEW acjc team along its way.

How will the new team fare? Will it carry on its proud tradition or wither away like a flower that blossomed in spring? That we cannot tell as it is up to the juniors to continue to continue to brave the new path, not alone of course, but also with the help of people like us that came from the same team. Afterall, we are all here reading this because in one way or another, acjc cross country came into our lives and touched us. As short as it may seemed, as distant as it may be, it was at that short moment of our lives that our souls were intertwined and our bodies bled for one another. And not forgetting the true friendships are forged through pain, laughter and tears. Perhaps we are very much like fireworks. A moment of flash and brillance with wonderful colours in the sky, so lovely yet so short-lived!

Let us hope that this will be the dawn of an even better team.

This was an amazing trip!!!! And our hosts for the three days were sooo hospitable. I went to the U.S.A side of the falls, which is not as nice as the Canadian side, but still very nice!!!

Many many rainbows all around!!! We were lucky that it was a bright and sunny day! Almost no clouds.
This is 'The Cave of The Winds' they make you wear this yellow poncho and you go down this deep shaft and come out at the bottom. Then you can walk along this old wooden bridge and get really close to the American Falls

On the boat ride!!!! This was fantastic because we went into the middle of the horseshoe falls!!!! Everywhere surrounded by water!!! Don't bother taking pics, almost impossible because of all the water flying around... and my lens fogged up a couple of hours later ...

I still cannot believe my camera still works properly.

Hey there!

I just read the cross blog. so sweet of you. :) So i thought it was only appropriate to give u a update of life here. You can share this with the other guys and girls on the blog. Save me the trouble of emailing everyone. teehee. :)

I am taking some time off my work to update you! :) So, its raining again here in london. The winds are really strong and sadly and most most embarrassingly my umbrella did flip up once as i was walked to the strand. :( But i guess that is common eh. I have a grand total of 12 hours of school a day. Roughly about 2-3 hours of school a day. Dont get too jealous of me yet, NEVER in my entire education have i spent the First week of school in the library. I have never studied so hard in the first 2 weeks of school. ever. usually i start work 3-4 months into primary, secondary school and jc. so there u go. I have spent 130 quid (mutiply by three for sg) on 12 textbooks, which are really thick and heavy and is only needed for first year. so yeah. fantastic. But i am lucky and grateful to my senior for selling me her second hand books,( oops did i fail to mention this?) Usually people spend approx 350 Quid on new law textbooks. See second hand but still so ex. sighh. I dont mind second hand though, all the highlighted main points. :)

Jaime and i run on mondays and thurs with a group of people at around 6pm. The london view at night is amazing. The bridges are lighted up and its so pretty. We might join them on wednesdays, but we arent sure yet. Cos we wannt to play tennis as well. Im currently indulging in potato crips now. Eating them at my own peril. heh. I'm also doing some Pro Bono projects, like streetlaw. Have yet to get into full steam of this project and so i shall update u guys later about it. But basically, we go to school to educate teens about the law, and the good thing about this, is that we in turn are being guided by lawyers from Freshfields. (Which is in the magic circle; there are 5 firms in the magic circle) This is similar to the accountancy equivalent to the Big 3? yeahh. And then there is SWOT; a christain bible study group in all souls(church im attending) every wednesday which serves amazing dinner for 2 pounds before bible study starts. Friday nights are occupied by OCF, a fellowship group among sg and malaysians. This is basically how my week goes. In between, there is reading and parties. and more reading.

Im not really complaining abt the work load, it is still quite manageble and i enjoy my law lectures very much. The modules which im taking is interesting! criminal law(most interesting but hard to score), Public law ( the bane of my life but easy to score), contract law and European law(LOVE IT). EU law lecs and tuts always pass by the quickestt. :) and did i tell you... i have a reallly cute tutor. hahaha. he is like max 26. a visting tutor. and let me tell u the coolest thing about him... he is going to be a barristor. So he is in the midst of doing his bar. WOW WEES. Talk about practical application. So that's a good thing.

Staying in halls, apart from the distance and running for buses almost every morning, has been fun. People are really nice here, and becos my toilets are mixed, it was really strange when i went into the toilet only to find a man coming out. and there was once, i wanted to go to the toilet so i told my friend ( a man), hey i need the toilet and he goes oh yeah me too. and then he follows me in. WEIRRD FEELING. haha. But i have slowly gotten use to it.

Transportation IS SO EXPENSIVE HERE. and the tubes are so unreliable. One min, a tube line can be closed and we got to figure out another way to our destination. Tubes are really dusty and HOT. people have actually died in the tubes. It is so so bad. Thats why u have stuck to buses. alot better, except when some fool decides to have a demonstration at trafalgar square, which holds up traffice.

So so this is the end of my long update. :) Take care in police yes? :) tell me whats going on in sg sometime when u are free. :) I am having a slight flu now. blahh. Im coming home on the 18th dec.

In An Attempt to Revive the Blog

Hello once again to faithful readers that always regularly check this blog only to find nothing new.And here i am, sitting in the living room in a lazy Sunday afternoon after having decided not to do anything for the day, shall answer to the painful calls from this blog that is dying to have a new post to be put up in it. After all, I'm such a nice guy.

The month of August and September saw the departure of several of our teammates. Well, not to Heaven yet but to further their studies abroad in 2 popular places, the US and UK. In Singapore, there are usually 3 types of student that will go overseas to study. The first belongs to the type that have the ability to excel in studies and at the same time, handle an unbelievable amount of extra activities that require more than 24hrs a day to complete. They will usually end up as a scholar and serve in top government agencies or in private sector after they graduated. The second belongs to the type that excels in the studies too, but decides to go overseas because they have too much money and that NUS,NTU,SMU,SIM and NIE is just not suitable for them even though 90% of JC graduates will go into these places. The last belongs to those that have poor grades and have too much money. I'm glad that none of the 4 are in the last category.

Among the quartet, one guy stood out the most. Well, he is the only guy anyway. Santosh Kumar, our dearest friend cum senior cum mentor left for Michigan University. As much as his goofy actions like bringing a calculator in the front pocket of the uniform to everywhere or wearing his Jurassic park cap to training made him very famous in school, it is the rare charismatic and charm that he possesses which seems to draw people towards him and unknowingly be influenced by him, that makes him a special person. His ability to disregard comments about his messy appearance is legendary and allows his true character to shine. In times of difficulty, he is always there standing by our side to provide us with advice and help. Of course, he is always there ready to explain physics questions to everyone. He is truly a walking physics textbook!

Then there is Ms Tee, more known as Tee Chin Yen, our cross girls team captain. She is the girl that terrorise most of the boys in the team with her no-nonsense attitude and with that dont-you-dare-make-fun-of-me face. Not only is she a talented and smart girl that excels in almost everything she does, she has a kind and caring heart for friends around her. Yet what i really admire about her is her strong determination and perseverance that she has. Ever seen the look in her eyes when she is concentrating hard on something? Last but not least, i really like her cute pony tail.

The next 2 ladies must be mention as a pair. Teoh Mae Yen and her sidekick Jamie Chang or is it Jamie Change and her sidekick Teoh Mae Yen? They are always seen together and near each other in school like twins. They attend the same lessons together, sit in the same lecture theatre together, study together, pon lectures and class together, go to the restroom together, sit in the void deck together, laugh and cry together and i really think this list is not going to end if I'm going to mention everything. They have this strange telepathy with one another and always speak to each other with this gypsy sounding language when they discuss private matters IN FRONT of everybody. So i think you kind of get the idea how irritating they can be at times. They are the undisputed nosiest pair in the whole school. As similar as they can be, each of them has their own character. Mae Yen is the nosiest while Jamie is less noisy. Mae Yen is blur at times while Jamie is blur most of the times. Mae Yen don't really know how to take public transport while Jamie don't know how to take MRT. Jamie don't curse and swear much but Mae Yen is very liberal about it. Mae Yen is known as the Pang Sai queen while Jamie is the Blur Queen. And of course, one is short and another one is shorter. See, they can be so different! After all, they known each other since young and attended the primary,secondary, college and now, the university together. The friendship between them is so tight that nothing can come between them. They are the epitome of the theme 'Friends Forever' that you usually find on teddy bears in gift shops. But before i end, i just have to add that as irritating as they can be (Just imagine you get all the suaning, scolding and kicking double by each of them), they can be the nicest and sweetest people in the world with their helpfulness, cheerful and bubbly attitude! I think you just cant help but smile when you see this pair.

So to end this long winded post that is filled with lots of grammatical errors, i sincerely wish them all their best in their studies and life, and hope they remember the times that we all shared together in school and in the team when we quarreled, laughed and stuck to each other through rain and shine. I believe the rest of the team will miss you all, so don't forget to give us a ring when u come back!

ahaha and my first time crossing the road?, i thought we only had like 5 seconds to cross the 3 laned road but.. instead of the green man flashing, the red man flashed, so i DASHED! hahaha. looking more like an asian fool.. oh well..

Essay Outline: Describe your dinner experience.

Level: Primary 2

Today the boys met up for dinner at Modesto's.
It was at orchard.
The food was ok, while the serving is as modest as its name suggests.
The pizza was large but thin, with little toppings.
Yet strangely, it was enough to filled our stomach.
We drank plain water too.
Colin commented that the previous entry was filled with grammatical errors.
David, Colin and Sam got more $$, so they ordered something else which i cannot remember.
We talked and laughed.
Took bus to cineleisure wanting to play xbox, but walked to youth park to play card games.
As midnight approaches, we decide to go home and sleep.
And we live happily ever after??

12th June 2007 POP

It has been awhile since this blog is updated. Thousands of apologies for those that drops by weekly or once a while to check whether if this blog is updated! Please do continue to show your support by coming once awhile to check for updates on latest information on us and our friends!

Today marks the day for 4 of our squad mates transforming from Boys to Men as they successfully pass out from BMT at tekong. i was there to witness the proud moment when one of our squad mate, REC SAMUEL LEE KHONG SHENG went up the stage to received the Orion Coy Best Award, an award that is given to the best cadet in the whole company. Special mention goes to REC TUNG ZHI SHING COLIN who emerged as Scorpion Company platoon's 1 best cadet! Last but not least, a BIG HUG and congratulations for REC DAVID NG QING KAI AND REC TIMOTHY SOH ZHEN YANG for completing the BMT safe and sound! Well done boys!

The 'Last' Supper on 8th April 2007

The B.O.R had a farewell steamboat dinner for the remaining guys (other than philip) who will be entering army to serve our country with pride and honour. As usual, nobody came on time so it gave us a chance to play bridge at marina south mrt (please do not try this in the public as it is a chargeable offence!). Special guest appearance by our honourable member Santosh (santi baby) as he came down to join us for dinner too! It was an eat-all-you can affair with the girls eating mainly bread, some meat and french fries, while the more adventurous guys chose seafood and of course, the lazy ones that just sit there to eat french fries and fried rice. Nono i'm not talking about kusal and muraly! We sorely miss the presence of our animal friend Leon Wai who booked in that night thus was unable to attend this steamy dinner (steamboat, dont let your imaginations run wild). As the clock ticks towards 12, it was time to say goodbye to our fellow members David, John Lew, Colin, Tim and Sam who shall be shaving botak and become a CHAO RECRUIT for 3 months! All the best, enjoy the tekaning sessions!

Unforgettable Moments

A year has passed since we won the title last year and what a year it had been! Filled with ups and downs, exams, prelims and finally our A levels. Our graduation from college marked the end of days of training together with all those 'easy' workouts, yet it also marks the beginning of another chapter in each of our lives as we proceed on to Ns and even Uni. So let us take this short time out to look back onto that very day where we achieved our goal that we worked so hard for!

Mission #7 - ChinaTown

haha i owed this report for weeks! haha last month's x-outing to chinatown was just great. it was a fun time of geting together once again after those who were captured went into the army/police force. only thing is, the indian didn turn up (and he hasn't been replying msgs). guess the navyman is rather busy. anyway once again it was super fun.

the start was the only bad thing cos everyone came late. ended up moving from the train station at 2330 instead of 2200. haha anyway, not many fun stuff to buy also. cept for our mzd hat which caught my eye. after buying it we paraded the streets with people calling us comrades in chinese.

Memories of Black Stallion

I have known Muraly, the Black Stalion of our team, since he was sec 2 at ACSI. We were travelling together on the same mrt with another acsi friend (whom i cannot recall) to boon lay and that was the first time that i had a conversation with him. He strikes me as a very humble and determined fellow, and i later came to know that he won the national primary school track and field.

On the track during training, he always pushes himself to the very best and of course, if i allow, he would always run barefoot! His presence and his attitude towards training have always inspired me, and his contribution to the this fellowship cannot be replaced by anything else on this earth. I could vividly recall during one of our 800m training that me, kusal and him pushed and encouraged each other during each of our sets. Even though the workout was punishing and the pain and the lactic he had to endure was probably much more than the both of us infront, he pushed himself so hard to catch up and run with us. I was very touched as it is the epitome of team running, where every teammate would push pass the pain barrier not for personal glory, but team glory. One can have a team of talented runners through chance, but one definitely cannot have a team of runners that are willing to run and sacrifice for each other! Muraly, is part of this special fellowship that i treasure alot.

And as he moves on with the next phase of his life, i wish him the very best. He has been through some tough times, but it did not take him down. That is why i'm sure that he will be able to hurdle through difficult times that will arise in the future like the water hurdle at steeplechase. Good luck and Band of Runners Forever!

the band of runners hq is regretting to announce the lost of one of the 10 elites from the boys squad. imported from the motherland of india, muraly was one of our black stalions. ok, the only BLACK stalion. his contributions were legendary, including the deafening "toot" sounds that he makes and the tremendous amount of things he has stolen. we truly remember him for his black nights, black mails & nails, black currents, black magic, black face and black moles.

Mission #5 cross camp

mission #5 update: the cross camp.
anglo-chinese junior collge. 14-16 Dec 2006.

it was really a good and looong time of fun. with lots of sports and disputes, amongst other squads. but one thing i'm sure of is that we're not gonna forget all these stupid shit.

everybody reported late on the first day.. i think they thought it was 2030 instead of 0830. so yea. had dinner and it was off to play some waterbomb game which really was the start of all the shit. all the smash faces, knocks and crazy cheating.

after dinner, testing out the camera.

after the water bombing. glad we survived..

then after that we randomly decided to play netball. in the dark middle of the night of course. really fun. top scorer was the stealth santosh and my team won the golden goal after like an hour and a half of running and tricking. after that was to the pool to dip of course. kinda scary at night. really, water was dark but we didnt care. only thing we were scared of was the cold temperature. good training tho.

and of course i must show off my brilliant idea of chilling hot cans of coke. check it out. hahaha.

and the second day was cycling at east coast. oh btw, 131188 has finally learned how to ride the bike. really fast learner. now came the war games. codeword "tameleh". quite fun except for all the injuries and dispute stuff. but we had a good super again at fong seng. oh man so many memories.. haha.

the last day was the rather the best. the indian got pranked, retribution from the misdeeds during the night. i put paste on his hands and naturally it went all over :)

while everyone was out playing the amazing race, it was dai dee at every funny place you could ever think of. the cafe was out of air con so we had our fun in the small pool with the floating frisbee. haha, but of course being in acjc, we were stopped - not because we were gambling, but just in case people blogged about us. what an irony (see the last sentence) i think the HQ should just chill. (email me if u want the pic). anyway drinking goggles was the better alternative.

gosh it was more fun than anyone could ever expected. played for almost an hour half, with colin cheating (managing to sneak away with the forfeit - wearing underwear inside) tim was the next victim of the dare.

the moment! hahaha actually we had a Mission 3 and a half before this but again only few reported. went to look and clothes and stuff before d-day itself.

side information: 170587 was injured during mission #3 and still under ops ward.

we walked around the whole of town many times to get a few shirts and ties. haha. didnt know the guys could be so particular..ahaha.

prom was just great. the only shit was the food. nonsense 90bucks for bo choi and mushroom, fried chicken and brown rice. eeeek. seriously nobody cared about the commander infront. all busy snapping photos away. even the band of runners were busy taking photos. the companionship was just great. like the whole HQ coming together and singing the school song for the last time haha.

pardon the disrupted transmission of the band of runners reports. problems occured with the admin dept and it has thereby been rectified by the colonel.

anyway. mission three. only few the squad turned up to stayover for the next day's marathon. had quite abit of fun. especially indoor and outdoor sports (watch soccer and play soccer)

yet another good time but the cost went up by abit. we need to transfer more funds from the treasury soon. we met at 1400hrs at bk cine where 9 out of 10 reported. kusal had some heart scan.

the first post! whoohoo! our first mission (aft a levels) was the trip to suntec to collect the marathon race packages after training at acs(i). weirdo's at the kopitiam and cheater doctors in the health and fitness expo and sexpo! haha!

after that was down to the arcade. found this stupid stack game but the prizes are WOW. ipods, PSPs and handphones. colin and i were playing like crazy. then came our favorite pastime, the xbox. but guess what, we played for free at taka's best denki xbox demo kits! here are some pics!
